Board and Governance

The Association’s Board of Directors is composed of 7 members elected by a majority of votes in the General Assembly, for a period of 2 years.

The Association Committee is composed of the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary-General and the Treasurer.

Mr. Mohamed Amrani has a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lorraine (Metz, France).

After two years of further training as an actuary at the Center for Actuarial Studies in Paris, he became an associate member of the Moroccan Association of Actuaries in 2002, and a full member in 2007.

In September 2015 he was elected President of the AMA and returned to the Council of the International Actuarial Association, where he has been a member of both the ‘Education’ and ‘Aid & Assistance’ Committees since September 2014.

Since January 2016, Mr. Amrani has been Vice-Chair of the IAA Africa Subcommittee.

Mr. Amrani is a member of the Executive Committee of BMCI Bank and currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of BMCI Asset Management, having previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer at BMCI Bourse.

Mr Mustapha Lebbar is a graduate of the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA) and holds a master’s degree in applied statistics and post-graduate studies (1990).

Mr Lebbar, formerly Division Head at the Department of Insurance and Social Welfare (Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance), retired in 2013 with the status of ‘General Engineer’.

He has over thirty-five years of experience in the insurance industry covering the entirety of insurance operations, policy development, regulation and supervision, and has participated in the development of national projects such as the Insurance Code and the Insurance Accounting Plan.

He was appointed President of the Moroccan Association of Actuaries in 2004, where he is currently a member of the Strategic Council. He has been chairman of the joint working group of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and the Micro-Insurance Network (IAIS-MIN JWG) since 2012. At the last General Meeting of the IAIS, he was appointed Chairman of the ‘Financial Inclusion’ Sub-Committee. He was appointed vice-chairman of the Africa Sub-Committee of the International Actuarial Association in 2008.

In addition to his work at AMA, Mr. Lebbar has also been a professor at the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA) since 2001 and at the Mohammedia School of Engineers in Rabat since 2008. He is in charge of supervising the Master’s program in the field of actuarial science.

Jalal Harmouch

Mr Jamal Harmouch has been  General Secretary of the AMA since October 2015.

Mr Harmouch currently holds the position of Actuarial Director at Grant Thornton Morocco.

Mr Harmouch began his career at AXA ASSURANCE MAROC as an actuary in charge of pricing, provisioning and profitability analysis of IARD products. In February 2010, he joined Grant Thornton Morocco in order to develop the Actuarial and Technical Support service lines.

Since 2010, he has led and implemented important mandates with the majority of Moroccan insurance companies on subjects related to Life, Non-Life and Reinsurance.

Mr Harmouch is recognized by his peers as an expert in programming and software development with SAS.

He is a laureate of the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics of Rabat and obtained the diploma of State Engineer in Actuarial-Finance in 2003. Passionate about modeling and quantitative risk assessment, Jamal holds a doctorate in insurance mathematics from Ibn Tofail University. He was particularly interested in his research work, risk assessment by genetic algorithms.

Mr Mohamed Boumassaoud graduated from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.

He is also simultaneously a member of the Moroccan Association of Actuaries-AMA, and of the Institute of Actuaries of Belgium – IABE.

Mr Boumassaoud started his career as an actuary with the Fortis Group. He then joined ING Belgium in 2001 as Risk Specialist. In 2006, he joined AXA Belgium to take up the position of Project Manager in the Business Line Life Retail.

He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of AXA, and holds the position of Risk Management Director of the AXA Hub for Morocco and Francophone Africa.

ftouhiMr Achraf Ftouhi is an actuary, a graduate of the Catholic University of Louvain la-Neuve in Belgium. He also holds a diploma in financial risk management from Saint-Louis University in Belgium. He is a member of both the Moroccan Association of Actuaries (AMA) and the Institute of Actuaries of Belgium (IABE). He started his career as an actuary with ING Belgium. He then joined AON Consulting Belgium to serve as Senior Actuarial Consultant. Following that, he joined the consulting division of Deloitte Maroc to take over the actuarial services consulting division. He currently holds the position of Director of the technical support division of Atlanta.

mrbelbarakaMr Mohamed Belbaraka has been, since February 2010, Technical Director with SADA Assurances Groupe DEVK in Nîmes after having held the position of Deputy Managing Director in charge of Technical (Life & Non-Life) Management at Wafa Insurance between 2005 and 2010, and the role of Central Technical Director at AXA Group in Paris, in charge of the underwriting and pricing of mass (individual and professional) risk, product innovation and development, from 2000 to 2005.

Mr Belbaraka holds a DEA in Scientific Methods of Management from the University of Paris IX Dauphine and is a Statistician Engineer Economist, having graduated from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration of Paris.

abderrahim_chaffaiCurrently Deputy Managing Director of Wafa Assurance, in charge of the Business and Support department, Mr. Abderrahim Chaffai has more than twenty years of experience in the insurance industry.

Mr Chaffai is a graduate of the University of Rouen and the University of Paris (ISUP), and holds an MBA from HEC Paris. He started his career in Paris in the consulting business, before joining SANAD, in 1994, as Development Director.

In 2000, he joined Zurich Insurance as Technical Director where he was subsequently appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer. In 2010, Mr Chaffai joined the Central Reinsurance Company as Deputy Managing Director, in charge of the support department and then of commercial activity. He held this position until his appointment in June 2015 to Wafa Insurance.
